Information Science Research Centre

Director: Klaus-Dieter Schewe

Deputy Directors: Sven Hartmann and Jose Maria Turull-Torres

Mission Statement

The Information Science Research Centre (ISRC) undertakes research in the area of large-scale, distributed, data- and knowledge-intensive systems. With respect to these systems, this research includes:

  • Their mathematical and logical foundations,
  • Computability and complexity issues that occur,
  • Models and languages to describe and implement such systems,
  • Integrated methodologies to develop applications based on them,
  • The engineering of research prototype systems that demonstrate their feasability and application,
  • Applications in science, business and education.

The ISRC takes an integrated approach that combines in-depth theoretical research with systems-oriented research and prototype implementation. The Centre will initially focus on project themes in the foundations, engineering, and application of distributed databases. Each of these project themes will involve doctoral and masterate students who are sponsored by the Centre. They will contribute to future generations of highly skilled researchers in Information Science and Technology in New Zealand.
